JUBLIEE PRESS STATEMENT

Coimbatore Contributes its share in a big way to
the Indian economy through its industrial hub in the areas of
Textile, Pump Motor, Foundry, Textile Engineering, Educational
Medical and IT related areas.
The first Electric Motor and Water Lifting Pump
in India were produced in Coimbatore seven decades back. Coimbatore
produces more than 45% of the Nation's pump motor requirement used
for Agriculture, Industrial and Domestic needs.
The year 1952 saw the birth of SIEMA initiated by the Stalwarts
of Coimbatore Engineering Industries with a vision and a mission
to uphold the interest and tradition of the Industries. The Southern
India Engineering Manufacturer's Association (SIEMA) was
incorporated on 29th October 1952 with a humble strength of 20
members and Late Prof.G.R.Damodaran of PSG Industrial Institutes
as the Founder President.
In 1976 SIEMA purchased 41.5 cents of land in the prestigious
location of Coimbatore , RACE COURSE . An Office building of 7000
Sq.ft was constructed in June 1984.In the year 1996
another 4000 Sq.ft building was added in the first floor.
In the quota Regime of late 50's SIEMA engaged in procuring
scarce raw materials like Coke, Pig
Iron, Steel Materials and foundry chemical for distribution to
its members.
SIEMA represented to the Government and its agencies for
the raw material requirements, tax related matters and industrial
relations and had a very good rapport with all the Departments.
SIEMA used to have regular interaction with
its members for fixation of prices for their products.
The 15th Indian Standards Convention was held in
Coimbatore during December 1973 and that was the beginning of
Standards Marking for Coimbatore Pump Industry. SIEMA became
a member in the Sectional Committee of Indian Standards Institution
(ISI) in the year 1969 and ever since SIEMA plays a vital
role in formulating Standards alongwith BIS in various Committees.
SIEMA members operate around 300 BIS
licences. The Current President Sri G.Rajendran represented our
Country through BIS in the International Electro Technical
Commission meeting held on Florida, USA in
2001. He is also the Convener for the Technical Committee formed
by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Minister of Power , Government
of India from 2002.
In the year 1968,various sub-committees were formed
to have more focused activities in the
related areas.
Technical Seminars related to the Pump Motor Industry
and General Engineering were conducted regularly for the benefit
of the Industry to appraise the members the latest technology.
A National
Seminar on Motor in association with CII was conducted in January
2000.
A Buyer -Seller Meet was organised in the year 1994
by SIEMA. From then on a number of exhibitions for the
requirements of Defence, Southern Railway, Integral Coach Factory
and Madras
Refineries Ltd.were conducted. A Market Survey on Pump Motor
Industry, a first of its kind by an
Association, was conducted by SIEMA in 1999 to enlighten the members
the status of the industry
and the course of action to be taken by them for their future.
Our Vice- President Sri C.R.Shanmughasundaram attended
an International Conference on
Irrigation Technology Transfer of Harare by Food and Agricultural
Organisation of United Nations during 1998.
The long felt need of the Small Scale Industry of
the Region was for a Quality Testing Centre for
Motors, Compressors and other appliances. Small Industries' Testing
And Research Centre
(Si'Tarc) ws promoted in the year 1987 by SIEMA jointly with CODISSIA and with
financial assistance from Industrial Development Bank of India
(IDBI). SIEMA has leased out its land of 1.95 acres in Peelamedu
which was purchased in the year 1966 to Si'Tarc for its
Take-off.This is a first Quality
Testing Centre aided by IDBI. Over the years Si'Tarc has grown
with testing Centre aided by IDBI.
Over the years Si'Tarc has grown with testing facilities
in Mechnical,Electrical,Metrology, Chemical
divisions. A prestigious project Si'Tarc Pump Institute with the
funding of Government of India,
UNDP
and Government of Tamil Nadu was created and dedicated to the
Nation by Hon'ble Smt.Vasundara Raje, Minister of State for Small
Scale Industries, Government of India on 21'st January, 2002.
SIEMA has always shouldering its local
responsibilities
at the time of National crisis and calamities.
In the year 1962, SIEMA donated a sum of Rs.1,01,116/- to late
Hon'ble Shri K.Kamaraj Nadar,
the then Chief Minister of Madras for the National Defence Fund.
It has also donated a sum of Rs.1,00,000/- towards Kargil Defence
Fund in 1999 and about a lakh
of rupees towards Gujarth Earth Quake Relief Fund in 2001.
The members of SIEMA salutes the Eleven Captains
and their teams over the period of 50 years
for achieving their target and serving the industry to the best
of their capablities.Now is the turn
of the
Golden Jubilee President Sri G.Rajendran and his team to take
SIEMA to greater heights.

PLAN

SIEMA will motivate its members to excel, to contribute,
to innovate and to grom stronger.

SIEMA will also guide the members to have a global presence
and also operate on such a
scale that the fellow Indians
would be benefited and gain employment.

As a mark of Golden Jubilee a GOLDEN
JUBLIEE COMMOMETATIVE BUILDING for a business Centre first of its
kind in the city at a cost of Rs.40 lakhs will be established.

SIEMA will tie up with Technical
Institutions for capturing technological strengths will locate
persons with innovative fire and to utilize the knowledge source
relevant to the industry.

SIEMA will join hands with link-minded
organisation for representing and solving the problems in the
areas of taxation, commercial,raw materials side and industrial
relations.

SIEMA will have frequent programmes of Techno-Commercial by
inviting and interacting with the leading Industrial Experts
and Consultants.
SIEMA will continue to strive and contribute for the Green
Revolution through the Industrial Excellence for a prosperous
India.
SIEMA has crossed several mile-stones and has completed
50 years of excellent service to its members and now celebrates
its inauguration of GOLDEN JUBILEE
